Erectile dysfunction (ED) can be caused by a variety of factors, including physical activity. One such activity that has been linked to ED is cycling. In this blog post, we will discuss the connection between cycling and ED, and what men can do to reduce their risk of developing ED as a result of cycling.

First, it is important to understand that cycling can put pressure on the perineum, the area between the scrotum and the anus. This pressure can compress the nerves and blood vessels that supply the penis, leading to damage and ED. Studies have shown that men who cycle for long periods of time or at high intensity are at a higher risk of developing ED than those who do not cycle.

However, it's important to note that cycling also brings many health benefits, such as cardiovascular health and weight loss. Therefore, it is not necessary to stop cycling altogether, but rather to take precautions to reduce the risk of ED. Some of the ways to do this include:

Adjusting your bike seat: A seat that is too high or too low can put extra pressure on the perineum. Make sure your seat is at the right height and angle to minimize pressure on this area.

Taking regular breaks: Take breaks every 30 minutes to an hour during a long ride to give your body a chance to recover.

Wearing padded shorts: Wearing padded shorts can provide extra cushioning for the perineum and help reduce pressure.

Cross-training: Mixing up your exercise routine with other activities such as swimming or running can help reduce the amount of time spent cycling and decrease the risk of ED.

In conclusion, cycling can increase the risk of ED, but taking precautions such as adjusting your bike seat, taking regular breaks, wearing padded shorts, and cross-training can help reduce the risk. If you are experiencing ED, please speak with a doctor at RinoWave to determine the cause and develop a treatment plan. Remember, cycling is an excellent way to maintain cardiovascular health and weight loss, so do not hesitate to continue this activity while taking the necessary precautions.

           How to Prevent Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a common issue that affects many men. It can have a significant impact on a man's quality of life and can also be a sign of underlying health issues. Thankfully, there are several ways to prevent and treat ED.

One of the best ways to prevent ED is to maintain a healthy lifestyle. This includes eating a balanced diet, getting regular exercise, and maintaining a healthy weight. Eating a diet that is rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains can help improve blood flow and reduce the risk of ED. Exercise, particularly cardio exercise, can also improve blood flow and lower the risk of ED.

Another important aspect of preventing ED is to manage any underlying health conditions, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. These conditions can all contribute to ED, so it's important to manage them effectively. This may involve taking medication, making lifestyle changes, or both.

Smoking and excessive alcohol consumption can also contribute to ED, so it's important to quit smoking and limit alcohol intake.

There are also several supplements that may help prevent ED. One of the most popular is ginseng, which is believed to improve blood flow and boost libido. Other supplements that may help include horny goat weed, L-arginine, and DHEA.

If you're experiencing ED, it's important to talk to your doctor about treatment options.

In addition to the above, there are also natural treatment options available for ED, shockwave therapy. These treatments work by increasing blood flow to the penis, allowing a man to achieve and maintain an erection.

In summary, erectile dysfunction prevention can be achieved by maintaining a healthy lifestyle, managing underlying health conditions, quitting smoking and limiting alcohol intake, and considering supplements like ginseng. If you're experiencing ED, talk to your doctor about treatment options.

Erectile Dysfunction Treatment for Gay and Bisexual Men: What to do if you have Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction (ED) can be especially difficult for gay and bisexual men to talk about. ED is defined as the inability to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including physical health problems, psychological issues, and medications.

Gay and bisexual men may be at an increased risk for ED due to a number of factors. For example, men who have sex with men (MSM) are at a higher risk for certain sexually transmitted infections (STIs), such as HIV. These infections can lead to damage to the blood vessels and nerves in the penis, which can make it difficult to achieve and maintain an erection. Additionally, some medications used to treat HIV and other STIs can also cause ED as a side effect.

Other risk factors for ED among gay and bisexual men include psychological issues such as anxiety and depression. These conditions can affect a person's ability to become sexually aroused, and can also lead to difficulty achieving and maintaining an erection. Additionally, societal stigma and discrimination against gay and bisexual men can also contribute to psychological stress and negatively impact sexual health.

It is important for gay and bisexual men to understand that ED is a common problem and that it is not their fault. There are many treatments available for ED, including medication, therapy, and lifestyle changes. Medications such as sildenafil (Viagra), tadalafil (Cialis), and vardenafil (Levitra) and shockwave therapy can help improve blood flow to the penis and make it easier to achieve and maintain an erection. Therapy can also be helpful in addressing any underlying psychological issues that may be contributing to ED.

In summary, gay and bisexual men may be at an increased risk for ED due to a variety of factors, including STIs, medications, and psychological issues. However, it is important to remember that ED is a common problem and that there are many effective treatment options available. If you are experiencing ED, it is important to talk to a healthcare provider at RinoWave to determine the cause and develop an appropriate treatment plan.

Exploring Experimental Treatments for Erectile Dysfunction: Stem Cell Therapy and Penile Injections

While there are a variety of treatment options available for Erectile Dysfunction (ED), including medication, therapy, and lifestyle changes, some men may be looking for more advanced or experimental options. One such option is the use of stem cells and penile injections for the treatment of ED.

Stem cells are undifferentiated cells that have the ability to develop into various types of cells in the body. They have been studied for their potential to repair and regenerate damaged tissue, including the blood vessels and nerves in the penis that are necessary for an erection. In recent years, stem cell therapy for ED has gained popularity as a promising new treatment option.

Penile injections, also known as intracavernous injections, involve injecting a medication directly into the corpus cavernosum, the two spongy chambers in the penis that fill with blood during an erection. This can help increase blood flow to the penis and improve erectile function.

There have been some promising studies on the use of stem cells and penile injections for the treatment of ED. For example, a study published in the International Journal of Impotence Research found that a single injection of stem cells into the corpus cavernosum improved erectile function in men with ED. Another study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine found that intracavernous injections of a medication called alprostadil improved erectile function in men with ED who did not respond to other treatments.

It's important to note that stem cell therapy and penile injections are considered experimental treatments for ED and more research is needed to confirm their safety and effectiveness.

In conclusion, stem cells and penile injections are being researched as potential treatment options for ED. While there have been some promising studies, more research is needed to confirm the safety and effectiveness of these treatments. Men considering stem cell therapy or penile injections for ED should talk to their healthcare provider about the potential risks and benefits, as well as the cost and availability of these treatments.

What Is The Best ED Drug?

Dr. India Hanley founded RinoWave because she had so many patients experiencing negative side effects from treating their ED with medication. At RinoWave, our goal is to treat the root cause of most ED: insufficient blood flow. RinoWave treatments cause angiogenesis, which is your own bodybuilding and growing new blood vessels to sufficiently supply an erection with blood. Sometimes a RinoWave treatment protocol includes low-dose Cialis while patients are receiving RinoWave treatments, this small dose increases blood flow and dilates blood vessels, and assists the shockwave treatments resulting in an even more successful outcome. However, the ultimate goal is to get our patients off ED medication entirely.

           What about heart health?

Patients with cardiovascular disease are perfect candidates for RinoWave treatments and our low-dose Cialis treatment protocol. RinoWave treatments break up plaque and stimulate new vessel growth, and low-dose Cialis can help keep blood vessels dilated and blood flowing for patients who are experiencing or have a family history of cardiovascular disease.

           For Diabetic Patients?

A big majority of our patients have diabetes. Shockwave Therapy was actually developed to help diabetic patients grow blood vessels around ulcers that would not heal. It was so successful that researchers decided to try different areas of the body that suffer from a lack of blood flow.

           Over the Counter (OTC)?

There are no OTC ED treatments that have any credibility in the medical community. No research, no evidence. And some supplements can be harmful, so please check with your doctor before taking anything.

When do ED drugs not work?

If you have experienced a longer than 4-hour erection (priapism), there may be damage to your penis that would prevent ED drugs from working. If you have a vascular degenerative disease (such as diabetes, CVD, etc.) you may not have enough blood vessels, or your blood vessels may be damaged or blocked, causing vasodilators, like ED drugs, to be less effective. At RinoWave, we stimulate your body to grow new vessels and RinoWave treatments break up plaque in existing vessels.

Some contributing factors to Erectile Dysfunction in younger men include:

having anxiety, depression, or feelings of shame or guilt about sexual activity

experiencing significant stress, about sex or something else

           having overweight or obesity

having a lack of physical activity

using workout supplements, testosterone boosters, or over-the-counter erectile aids

At any age, making adjustments such as lowering levels of stress and exercising more frequently can help improve erectile problems and boost overall health.

Physical causes of Erectile Dysfunction include conditions that affect the vascular system, the nervous system, or the hormone system. Diabetes and atherosclerosis are the two most common medical problems that cause ED.

penile abnormalities, such as those affecting the foreskin

injury to the penis, spinal cord, prostate, bladder, or pelvis

In many cases, Erectile Dysfunction is caused by factors such as an unhealthy diet, a high level of stress, a lack of exercise, and smoking. By addressing these issues, people can often improve their ED symptoms.

Younger adults may find ED particularly uncomfortable to manage or talk about, due to the misconception that it only affects older people. In actuality, ED is relatively common in younger men.

Erectile Dysfunction in younger men is likely to be overlooked and dismissed without performing any medical assessment, even the most basic ones. However, evidence shows that, in younger subjects, ED is being reported and more common than many previously believed.

In younger men, diabetes and cardiovascular disease are often big contributing factors to ED. Having either of these conditions increases the chances of the onset of ED at a younger age. Even more importantly, if you are a younger man with ED it may be indicative of problems with your cardiovascular health, which is why it is so important for young men to discuss their erectile function with their doctors.

Sexual intimacy can be an important part of a marriage or long-term relationship, so this change may cause anxiety or a feeling of loss for both partners. A small 2014 study in Iran found that ED can make males feel:

           •	depressed

           •	angry

           •	less masculine

           •	socially isolated

           •	in denial

           •	lacking in self-confidence

           •	the desire to avoid their spouse

ED also affects the mental health of a person’s partner. According to a 2016 review, ED can make a person’s partner feel confused, anxious, undesirable, or suspicious that their partner may be unfaithful.

In many cases, ED is treatable. A range of effective treatments can restore sexual function, thereby improving satisfaction in a relationship. A doctor can help couples understand their options, and they will often encourage both partners to attend appointments.

As a first order of business, make sure your partner with ED is medically safe. Erectile dysfunction can be linked to an underlying health issue, such as cardiovascular disease or type 2 diabetes, or a mental-health condition like depression or anxiety, so encouraging your partner to see a health-care provider may be an important step to both treating the issue and supporting their health. Otherwise, reframing your mindset and approach to sex can go a long way toward finding sexual satisfaction.

However, a person may have to try several treatments or go through testing to find an option that works for them. During this time, it is important for their partner to be open, understanding, and supportive. In one study, 94% of males felt that their partner’s support was important when dealing with ED.

Some approaches that people can try include:

            open communication

            counseling

            other forms of intimacy

            lifestyle changes

Having a conversation about the feelings of guilt or embarrassment around ED can clear up misunderstandings such as lack of desire. The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) also suggest that partners let people with ED know that:

ED does not make them any less masculine or desirable

Sex is not as important as the person’s health and well-being

They are willing to work through this with the person

Here are some tips for experiencing more sexual pleasure with a partner when one of you is experiencing ED:

            Communication is KEY

            Counseling

            Re-examine your definition of sex

Unpack why you like to have sex with your partner

Bring in pleasure products, such as sex toys

            Try not to stress

Both people in a marriage or long-term relationship can find it difficult to deal with one partner’s ED. However, numerous effective treatments are available. Support from a partner can be very beneficial for someone undergoing ED treatment.

Having open, honest discussions and finding other ways to connect can help a couple retain or regain intimacy and closeness. People who have difficulty with this may benefit from talking to a couples counselor, who can offer advice on ways to cope.

At RinoWave treating the root cause of ED is our speciality. Our Focused Linear Shockwave Therapy treatments are ONLY done in the office. It is important to note that at RinoWave, we use Focused Linear Shockwave Therapy. There are radial shockwave machines on the market for home use. Radial shockwave machines act like a tiny jackhammer to cause injury-related trauma to the tissue they come into contact with. These at-home shockwave machines can cause trauma and are painful. Because patients who use this method at home are not supervised by a medical professional they can cause harm.

However, we do offer a method of treatment for ED symptoms that can be delivered! If you have low testosterone and want to treat that contributing factor to your ED, our team of doctors can help! We work with Empower Pharmacy to get Testosterone Replacement Therapy kits sent to our patients who are experiencing symptoms associated with their low testosterone. Schedule an online consultation with one of our doctors to see if you’re a candidate for our Testosterone program, and get your treatment for low T delivered to your door!

Studies have shown and urologists confirm, that a healthy Mediterranean-style diet of mostly whole foods is best for male sexual health.

“High-fat diets can lead to blockages in the coronary arteries and decrease the size of the arteries supplying blood flow to the penis,” says urologist James Ulchaker, MD.

What you eat can impact your hormone levels - testosterone included. According to healthline.com, eating a balanced diet of protein, minimally processed carbohydrates and healthy fats, helps to regulate your hormones and keep you healthy and energetic.

Another contributing factor of diet to hormone health is extreme dieting and overeating. The more we are learning about health and diet, the more we are finding that moderation is key. Overeating is bad, but so is extreme dieting.

Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) is a safe way to increase your testosterone from low to normal levels. Self- injections are the most effective way to administer TRT.

Our goal with RinoWave shockwave therapy is to stimulate your body's own growth factors to re-grow blood vessels. Testosterone aids your body in this process.

           How do you start TRT?

When you come in for your initial Rino Wave consultation, you will have your blood drawn or be sent to a testing site for lab work. The doctor will assess your lab work and the information gathered at your first appointment. If your t levels are low, the doctor may recommend TRT.

According to The Truth Initiative, nicotine not only causes low libido and infertility, but it also can cause Erectile Dysfunction! The American Urological Association states that the top causes of ED are “vascular disease,

Smoking cigarettes is damaging to your vascular system and circulation, which can cause a lot of health problems, including ED. An erection is basically a matrix of blood vessels in the penis enlarging and filling the penile tissue with blood. So, a healthy cardiovascular system is paramount to attaining and maintaining a firm erection.

According to the National Library of Medicine, “Evidence that long-term cigarette smoking is an independent risk factor for introducing impotence is robust.” But smoking cigarettes isn’t the only way nicotine can be consumed. The NLM study’s conclusions found, “Isolated nicotine can significantly attenuate physiological sexual arousal in healthy nonsmoking men.” This study was done with nicotine gum. So consuming nicotine in any form - smoking, vaping, gum, etc. - can impact your sexual and overall health.

“[N]icotine causes blood vessels to constrict, reducing blood flow to all the organs, including the penis. Therefore, men who smoke or vape, are at higher risk for experiencing erectile dysfunction (ED).”

ED is caused by many things: Medical conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol. Psychological causes like stress, anxiety, and depression. Lifestyle choices like alcohol, nicotine and drug use. It can also be a side effect of prescription drugs.

If you are suffering from erectile dysfunction (ED) and are looking for treatment solutions, it is almost inevitable you have hea

Oral medications are often the first line of treatment for ED. They work by enhancing the effects of nitric oxide. This is a chemical in the body that relaxes the muscles in the penis, when this happens it increases blood flow resulting in an erection. However, they don’t come without side-effects. If you are taking nitrate drugs for chest pain, oral medications can be dangerous. In addition, individuals with low blood pressure, those suffering from liver disease, or suffering from kidney disease should certainly speak with their physician first.

While oral medications are an easy treatment for ED, they are just a treatment and not a cure. They work under a limited time frame and once the drug has worked through your system, it’s affects are no longer achieved.

Many men are looking for a cure or certainly a long-term treatment that allows for spontaneity in the bedroom without any side-effects. But what are men’s options? A new innovative treatment is becoming more popular, and it is shockwave therapy. You are likely wondering what is shockwave therapy and how does it differ from oral medications?

Shockwave therapy is non-invasive and completely pain free procedure utilizing low intensity shock waves to break down and remove plaque buildup within existing blood vessels. The shock wave also creates a reaction at a cellular level that result in the natural formation of new blood vessels. The new increased blood flow to the penis from the new and cleared blood vessels results in improved, spontaneous, longer lasting erectile function and increased sexual satisfaction with absolutely no side effects.

Oral medications do not treat the root cause of the erectile dysfunction and only provide a very temporary solution. While shockwave therapy provides men with improved sexual function lasting up to 5 years or more. Depending on the oral medication taken, their effects can be immediate or last up to on 36 hours. Men must also consider the potential side effects. Shockwave therapy has been found to have no side effects, while oral medications are commonly known to potentially cause headaches, body aches, dizziness, and vision changes. In some cases, men our highly cautioned before starting oral medications. Men that are high risk include those taking nitroglycerin for chest pain or those who have heart disease.

When searching for a treatment for ED, it is important to know the facts and have a full evaluation by a physician. When you schedule your initial evaluation with Rinowave, you will receive a complete work up by our physician to ensure shock wave therapy is the right choice for you.

We all have heard the dreaded coined phrase, “Whiskey Dick”. A slandering comment to men who can’t obtain an erection after having alcohol. It is also a common perception that alcohol increases sexual desire but decreases performance. Scientists claim this phenomenon happens because alcohol is a central nervous system depressant, which also leads to disinhibition and increases sexual desire.

While alcohol may play an important role in men’s ability to gain and maintain an erection, there are many other risk factors that can cause negative effects such as diabetes, hypertension, and smoking. In addition, how many drinks does it actually take to cause issues? Alcohol intolerance varies widely and how often, and so does the body’s reaction to it including an erectile dysfunction (ED).

So how does alcohol exactly cause “Whiskey Dick”? As mentioned earlier alcohol is a depressant on the central nervous system. It has a sedating effect on the body and brain. In the case of erectile dysfunction, alcohol effects some of the key systems involved in sexual arousal and erection, blood circulation, and nerve sensitivity.

To explain further, during sexual arousal, the brain sends signals to the penis, telling it to become erect. Intoxication causes those signals to slow down and can result in ED. Dehydration is also a factor. Alcohol dehydrates the body which decreases circulation and can add further issues in being able to obtain an erection. Finally, dehydration also causes levels of angiotensin, hormone associated with ED to rise. This can cause blood vessels to constrict, which is completely the opposite of how you want your vessels to react, which leads to further issues.

How long does your ED last after alcohol consumption? Typically, it will last as long as you are intoxicated and once you sober up things should be back to normal. In same causes of chronic drinking and/or alcoholism can cause longer term issues with ED. In one study of 100 men who were heavy drinkers, 72% reported having sexual dysfunction, including erection problems, premature ejaculation, and low sexual desire; 33% reported ED. “Alcohol abuse is the leading cause of impotence and other disturbances in sexual dysfunction,” researchers wrote (Arackal, 2007).

In conclusion, if you find yourself having issues with ED, one area to consider looking at is how much you are drinking. It may be worth cutting back to see if the issues resolve over time. When you have determined decreasing your alcohol consumption has not helped resolve your ED, give us here at Rinowave a call. We will schedule you for an absolutely free consultation to determine if you are a good candidate for shockwave therapy. Shockwave therapy is an innovative treatment that is painless with no needles are involved. Even better, is there is an over 83% success rate. Learn more today.

Myths About Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile dysfunction (ED) can be a sensitive topic that many men do not want to talk about. It is important to know that ED affects roughly 30 million men in America. Because it is such an embarrassing topic, many men do not seek treatment. Even worse, men may search alternative treatments or cures on the internet that typically do not work and potentially cause further frustration and even depression. I want to look at five big myths about ED to help men be more informed and seek treatment without embarrassment.

Myth #1 - Erectile dysfunction is the same for everyone

First, ED can present itself differently in men. One man is not able to obtain an erection at all, while another man can have an erection and at other time cannot. Some men can achieve an erection but not enough to allow for penetration. By definition, ED is when a man is unable to obtain an erection that allows for intercourse. As you can see, that is fairly broad explanation and doesn’t really cover all situations.

Myth #2 – Erectile dysfunction only happens to older men

While the increase in the possibly of developing ED does happen later in life, there are still 15% of men younger than 40 who state they experience ED on occasion. Interestingly, 25% of those men in that group are actually seeking therapy. If you are a younger man questioning how this can be happening to you, rest assured that you are not alone.

Myth #3 – Erectile dysfunction is psychological

This claim is absolutely not true. What makes matters worse is when a man does experience ED, he can loose self confidence and develop an anxiety towards performing. This then lends to further stress which perpetuates the problem from a psychological perspective. ED is typically caused by the fact there is not enough blood flow in the penis. There are many reasons this can occur. Such factors can include smoking, alcohol, certain medications, high blood pressure and diabetes.

Myth #4 – Erectile dysfunction requires a urologist to treat

Urology specifically is focused on a male and females urinary-tract system and the male reproductive organs and so it is often does fall under this physician practice. However, many other physicians are trained and poised to address this issue initially. You may feel more comfortable talking about sensitive issues with your primary care and that is a good place to start. However, many other physicians are capable of determining the cause of your ED and treating it.

Myth #5 – Pills such as

           re the only treatment option

Historically, there has been a significant marketing campaign to the general public surrounding these medications. While these medications can be very affective, they are not the only option. In fact, an innovative fairly new treatment is available to treat ED utilizing shock wave therapy. In Europe this treatment has been treating men for over 10 years. This treatment now is available in the United States. It is pain free, requires no needs or pills and highly effective.

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is when a man is unable to maintain or have an erection for sexual activity intercourse. It is not uncommon to have an occasion situation where it is difficult for a man to have an erection but when this occurs frequently it can signal that something else may be going on.

Sex intimacy is an important part of any relationship and certainly in a marriage. When ED emerges in the marriage is causes both partners a feeling of anxiety and sense of loss. Studies have shown that when a man is faced with ED he will often feel:

While the man suffering from ED is struggling to cope, the partner is equally anxious and confused. Often, the partner will begin to wonder if the ED is caused by a lack of desire or question if their partner is still attracted to them. Even worse, some may suspect that perhaps their partner is cheating and no longer being faithful. These types of worries and fears for both partners can cause a significant strain on the marriage.

It is critical for both partners be open and honest in their communication with one another. While this can be extremely difficult to do, especially surrounding such an emotionally charged subject, it can assist the individuals to understand one another and prevent any miscommunication. Addressing each other’s fears and concerns can bring a sense of calm and oneness as the couple manages through the situation.

The great news is there are treatment options available to men that in most cases are highly effective. These treatments can restore the man’s ability to have an erection and once again enjoy sexual activity. At first some of the treatment options may not provide immediate results and so it is important for each partner to continue to be open and honest in their communication with each other. In addition, supporting one another is also how couples can effectively work through ED challenges.

The Effects of Diabetes on Men’s Sexual Health

Let us first talk about the 2 types of diabetes as they are not the same.

           Type 1 diabetes

(T1D) also knows as juvenile diabetes is an autoimmune disorder that typically occurs in young children. In T1D the bodies immune system goes into overdrive and literally “kills” the pancreas causing it to no longer create insulin. Insulin is the key the unlocks the cell allowing glucose “sugar” created from hormones and when we eat to enter the cell feeding it. When there is not enough insulin in the body, these glucose molecules build up in the blood stream and begin to attach themselves to the organs of the body. Over time, this build of glucose on the organs cases them to not work properly or fail all together which can lead to significant health problems including death.

           Type 2 diabetes

is the most common form of diabetes with an estimated 34 million people suffering from the disease. Whereas T1D is the inability for the pancreas to make insulin, Type 2 is the bodies inability to regulate and use the glucose molecules appropriately. In a nutshell, there are two issues going on, the body is not making enough insulin to keep up with the demand and the cells do not respond correctly and do not take in enough glucose which they need. Just as T1D, the increase of glucose in the body can damage organs and cause significant health issues.

           The signs and symptoms for both T1D and T2D are similar. They include;

            Excessive thirst

            Frequent urination

            Unintended weight loss

            Fatigue

            Blurred vision

            Frequent infections

            Slow healing wounds

As mentioned, diabetes can take a toll on one’s body. In men specifically it can play a major role in men’s sexual health.

Erectile dysfunction is when a man cannot achieve or maintain an erection in order to have sexual intercourse. Men who have diabetes are at greater risk of developing erectile dysfunction due to the damage that can occur to the nerves and blood vessels when blood sugars are not maintained.

Retrograde ejaculation can also be caused by high blood sugars. When blood sugars are high, they cause nerve damage known as neuropathy. When these nerves are affected it can damage the genitals and bladder among other organs. This can then cause an issue where the man’s semen is mixed with their urine which can result in infertility.

Other sexual health negative affects of diabetes can include Peyronie’s disease and low testosterone. If you are experiencing any of these problems, it is recommended you seek treatment.

Shock wave therapy is fairly new and was first introduced in the 1970’s when it was used to disintegrate a kidney stone in a patient. Physicians, Haeusler and Kiefer reported they were able to eliminate the kidney stone with shock waves without even having touched the stone. This procedure is now commonly known as lithotripsy.

The first understanding as to how shock waves affected human tissue was in World War II. It was observed that castaways from blown up ships had torn lungs with no outer symptoms of trauma being observed. It was at first time that the influence of shock waves was observed on human tissue.

In the 1950’s further experiments continued to determine the affects of shock waves. Frank Rieber of New York patented a shock wave generator. This electrohydraulic generated enough shock waves it could literally crush ceramic plates in water.

In the late 60’s and early 70’s, German government paid for ongoing testing surrounding shock waves and their potential use. They learned that high-energy shock waves cause effects in organisms over long distances. It was also discovered that shock waves created low side effect on the way through the body. It left muscles, fat and other connective tissues unharmed. These experiments led Haeusler and Kiefer to the medical idea that they could use shock waves to disintegrate kidney stones in patients. In 1974 the Department of Research and Science in Germany financed a research program to test the physician’s theory around shock wave treatment for kidney stones. The program was a success and in 1980 the first patient was treated in Munich with a prototype machine called the Dornier Lithotriper HM1. In 1983, shock wave treatment was expanded to disintegrate gallstones which was also successful.

Today, the treatment of kidney and ureteral stones with extracorporeal shock waves is the gold standard of choice. In the last 16 years more than 3 million patients have been treated as it is a safe and effective therapy. Its use has also expanded to sports medicine where it is used to reduce pain in injured soft tissues and promote healing.

In Europe over the last decade, shock wave therapy has been used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) with great success. In a study, Vardi et al. 2010, patients who suffered from ED for over three years participated in the study. Of the 20 men who participated, 15 of them immediately saw results after the first month of treatment and all these men stated they are still realizing the results 2 years post treatment. Now in the United States, this new alternative treatment for ED has gained momentum due to the success rate. Now men have another option that is pain-free, no needles and no more need for pills.

Is ED Causing My Depression Or Is Depression Causing My ED?

When it comes to erectile dysfunction (ED) and depression and anxiety many are questioning which came first, “the chicken or the egg”. Did the ED cause the depression or did the depression cause the ED? Some studies have reported that exposure to depression increases the risk of ED, whereas others have observed no association. Moreover, other studies have reported that exposure to ED does in fact increase the risk of depression and it is no surprise as to why.

It is not uncommon for men with erectile dysfunction to be frustrated, sad, angry, and even insecure. If these feelings are not dealt with it, it can easily lead to clinical depression. Depression is an illness resulting in feelings of hopelessness, sadness, and an overall feeling of pessimism.

Is there a link between depression and sexual dysfunction? Studies say yes. Research show that 35 – 47 percent of people suffering from depression have sexual problems. To make matters worse, if you are taking antidepressant medications, 40 percent of those individuals report decline in sexual satisfaction.

The sexual urge that causes men to have an erection begins in the brain. When depression is at play, the chemicals in the brain are out of balance which can result in the inability to obtain an erection because the needed brain chemicals to stimulate blood flow in the penis are not functioning correctly.

To further expand on how the brain can affect men’s sexual performance, when one is under stress due to depression or anxiety, your body releases a chemical called cortisol. Cortisol constricts the blood vessels in the penis. When this happens, blood cannot flow freely which would compromise the ability to obtain an erection. Over time, increased cortisol can decrease the levels of testosterone in the body which further worsens the ED situation.

Whether or not the ED is created by the depression or the ED is causing the depression, the first step for men is to see a healthcare specialist who can first and foremost treat the depression and its symptoms. Once the depression is being treated and you still are being affected by ED, then it is time to seek additional evaluation and treatment for the ED.

Given the psychological consequences of ED, it is not surprising that men have difficulty accepting they have ED and seek therapy. Disappointment, shame, and embarrassment often deter men from finding solutions. Many men look to typical medical interventions such as pills, pumps, and injections. Despite the efficacy of these treatments, 30 – 50 percent of men stop using them after the first year.

The good news is there is a solution to treating ED that is 82% effective without the need for pills, pumps, and injections. The solution is pain-free, and results are usually noticed only after two treatment sessions.

How Does A Doctor Check For ED?

ED is much more common than you think. There are a number of ways doctors can check to see if you are one of the 52% of men over 40 who struggle with ED.

           Erectile dysfunction

is an issue that occurs when you can’t achieve an erection adequate enough for sexual intercourse. While this happens from time to time to almost every man, it becomes a serious issue when it’s recurring. ED can cause frustration, anxiety, and self-consciousness. It can also cause intimacy issues with your partner.

Fortunately, ED is a treatable condition, and most patients experience significant improvement in symptoms with the guidance and treatment recommendation of a doctor. However, before you get to this step, it is important to get an accurate diagnosis.

Here is how doctors check for ED

Medical History, Medications, and Lifestyle Discussion

The diagnosis process will begin with a thorough medical history assessment. This is important because many health conditions can cause or exasperate ED. Many health problems are directly related to ED, so if you have certain conditions, the likelihood of developing ED increases. Examples of such conditions include heart disease, Peyronie’s disease, multiple sclerosis, depression, and diabetes.

Your doctor will also review all of the medications you take. Many medications can increase your risk of ED. Examples include antiarrhythmic drugs, antidepressants, hormones, anticonvulsants, and antihypertensives. Oftentimes, simply changing the medications can reduce ED incidents and give your intimacy much-needed normalcy.

Your doctor will also discuss your lifestyle with you. If you take drugs or drink excessive amounts of alcohol, your risk of developing ED increases. If you deal with a lot of stress or anxiety, your risk also increases. Finally, if you have relationship problems with your partner, the likelihood of ED also increases.

Finding the underlying cause or related factors is just as important for diagnosis as it is for the treatment of ED. In most cases, getting the underlying cause under control significantly reduces ED symptoms.

           Physical Exam

Oftentimes, doctors will recommend performing a physical examination to check for abnormalities that could explain why you are experiencing erectile dysfunction symptoms. During the exam, your doctor will check for irregularities in nerve sensation, shape, color, and more.

           Urinalysis

A urinalysis consists of your doctor requesting a urine specimen. Your doctor may ask you to get this test done to check for any health problems that you may not be aware of, such as diabetes. While urinalysis is not necessarily a surefire way to diagnose ED, it can help rule out other health conditions or highlight problems that may otherwise go ignored.

           Blood Testing

Similar to urinalysis, a blood test can help highlight underlying problems that could be contributing to ED. Examples include diabetes, high cholesterol, kidney and liver issues, and hormone imbalance. While a blood test will not directly result in an ED diagnosis, it can help your doctor understand your health profile better, which can assist in getting you the right diagnosis for your symptoms.

At RinoWave, we understand how important healthy intimacy is for your relationship, health, and quality of life. As such, when issues like erectile dysfunction develop, we take it seriously. We will perform a thorough examination to find the underlying cause of your symptoms. (ED) has been providing men with long-term relief for over ten years now. Unlike traditional methods, including oral medications, injection therapy, and vacuum devices, this solution works by treating ED at its source: Improving blood flow to the penis.

Unfortunately, the proven success of shockwave therapy has led many providers to start offering “wave” treatments for ED with untested devices and energy levels -- and they don’t come with accurate research to back up their claims.

           Understanding erectile dysfunction

ED is an incredibly common problem, affecting an estimated 52% of men over the age of 40 - Over 30 million men in the US. You can develop erectile dysfunction for a variety of reasons, but a leading cause is blood vessel and soft tissue degeneration, or vascular problems in the penis.

To achieve and maintain a satisfying erection, you need to have a healthy blood flow to your penis. If the arteries in the area can’t open properly during moments of arousal, it interferes with blood flow to your penis, which causes ED symptoms or impotence.

Fortunately, focused and linear shockwave therapy can restore the natural health and function of the blood vessels and soft tissue in your penis, and in turn, restore your sexual vitality.

           How shockwave therapy works

True shockwave therapy produces single pulses of energy that travel faster than the speed of sound, or at least 1,500 meters per second. That’s the equivalent of 15 football fields. As a result, this powerful form of energy can trigger the neovascularization process, which produces new and healthy blood vessels.

During shockwave therapy for ED, we deliver this focused and concentrated energy to areas in your penis with poor blood flow. The speed of the energy enables it to pass harmlessly through your outer erectile tissues, penetrating deep inside where blood vessel and soft tissue degeneration exists. This consistent and focused exposure to these energy levels activates the growth of new blood vessels and tissue in the area on a cellular level.

Our shockwave therapy treatments take 25-30 minutes, don’t require numbing creams or anesthesia, and are completely painless.

The problem with inferior “wave” treatments

Unfortunately, many providers now offer ED treatments using untested devices with inadequate energy levels that don’t provide the same results as shockwave therapy. It’s easy to identify these procedures because they often have the term “wave” in their name, like:

           - Acoustic wave

           - Acoustic pressure wave

           - Radial wave

That’s because providers usually use acoustic wave devices or radial pressure wave devices in these treatments. But, this is not the same as shockwave technology. While wave treatments are classified as medical devices, their ratings with the FDA are similar to those of vibrators, and they don’t require any medical training to operate.

When you receive RinoWave's Shockwave Therapy, the device used during your procedure has an FDA Class 111 rating. This means it requires pre-market approval, clinical documentation proving its safety and effectiveness, and can only be used by a medical professional in approved ways.

What sets RinoWave Therapy apart from wave treatments

It’s easy to confuse acoustic wave therapy with shockwave therapy because they both create sound waves. However, acoustic waves only travel 10 meters per second -- compared to the 1,500 meters per second seen with focused shockwaves. Therefore, acoustic wave therapy doesn’t come anywhere near breaking the sound barrier, which is required to trigger the neovascularization process at a cellular level.

Plus, since acoustic waves don’t have enough energy, they only create surface pressure, like having a vibratory massage. That means they never penetrate the surface of your skin to reach the damaged tissue inside your penis, causing your ED symptoms. Instead, you experience redness and discomfort on the surface of your penis, with little to no change in your erections. It’s also why these treatments usually require numbing cream and anesthesia.

True shockwave treatments also come with considerable research showing proven clinical results.

Are You Losing Your Sex Drive?

Movies and television often depict men as always ready for sex, day and night. Unfortunately, for some men, this isn’t the case and can cause a lot of negative emotions and can harm a healthy relationship. It’s common for men to suffer from impotence sometimes and it’s also common to experience decreased sex drive. Suffering from these isn’t a cause to search from the internet “impotence treatments near me,” so, don’t panic. However, there are things you need to understand about your libido to determine if it’s time to see a medical professional.

           Aging and Sex Drive

The aging process plays a big role in your sex drive. For some men who are in their 60s and 70s, however, they have remained interested in sex.. But for men who go for long periods with no sexual desire, it is time to contact RinoWave and talk to Dr. India Kinsley to help you regain your sexual desire.

           Causes Low Testosterone

Although testosterone levels vary from man to man, younger men usually have higher levels than older ones. As you age, your testosterone levels also decreases. A Mayo Clinic article indicated that you can expect your testosterone levels to decline by one percent per year once you reach 30.

Your testosterone level is usually highest in the morning and then will fluctuate throughout the day. This is the reason why a medical practitioner who wants to assess your testosterone level will conduct the test in the morning when it peaks.

If you’re between the ages of 40 and 49, your total testosterone will usually be between 252 to 916. Men between the ages of 50 and 59 usually have a testosterone level between 215 to 878. On the other hand, a testosterone reading between 156 and 819 is normal for a 70 to a 79-year-old man.

           Depression

Depression is a persistent feeling of sadness. It causes you to lose interest in the activities that you normally enjoy, including sex. You are usually lacking in energy or can be seen as grumpy. With depression, you might even view your partner negatively. All of these issues can interfere with your sexual desire.

Unfortunately, depression can also cause anxiety, headaches, and unexplained back pain, which can affect your sex drive as well.

           Medications

Your loss in sex drive might stem from the medications you take, usually because the drug affects your testosterone level.

Antihypertensives like beta-blockers and ACE inhibitors can lead to erectile dysfunction and inhibit ejaculation. Drugs like the following also affect your sex drive:

Certain medications also delay ejaculation, such as antidepressants.

           Chronic Health Conditions

Some chronic health conditions, including obesity, type II diabetes, and hypertension, can impact your libido.

Diabetes, for example, may cause nerve damage known as neuropathy. As a result, you may have pain, numbness, or a decreased sensation in your genitals, all of which can interfere with your sex life. You might also experience impotence or have difficulty ejaculating.

Hypertension can also make it difficult for you to ejaculate or can cause a decrease in your sex drive. Sometimes, the medication you take for it can have the same impact.

During this visit you will meet with the physician and discuss your symptoms and history. This thorough evaluation will help the physician determine the appropriateness of the treatment and how effective it will likely be. The physician will also screen you for any nerve disorders or infections in the treatment area to ensure the safety of the procedure.

           Therapy Visit

When you arrive, you will be placed in a private treatment room. You will be made comfortable while lying on the exam table. Once therapy begins, your clinician will use an applicator that looks like a wand which transmits sound waves referred to as shockwaves. The wand will be placed on different regions of the penis as it sends shockwaves into the tissue. The pulse waves encourage blood flow by eliminating plaque buildup in the arteries while also promoting tissue rejuvenation.

The therapy causes no pain. You may feel a little discomfort or an awkward sensation from the pulses initially, but this typically resolves within a couple of hours. If you do feel pain at any time, let your clinician know immediately.

It is important to know, shockwave therapy can cause temporary inflammation of the tissues of the penis. Because of this inflammation your body’s natural healing process kicks in and begins to regenerate and repair the cells. If you are receiving treatment for Peyronie’s disease, the shockwave therapy breaks down the scar tissue within the penis that eventually removes the curvature of the penis when aroused.

           Following Your Therapy

There is no down time after your treatment. It is sometimes recommended to avoid certain strenuous activities or exercise immediately following your therapy to avoid any unwanted symptoms. If you choose to have intercourse the same day of your treatment, it can cause some mild pain and is recommended you wait 24 hours from the time of your treatment.
